It’s time for some Street Fighter!
And, yes, that likely means Tekken is coming too.
We’ve already had Mortal Kombat, so it only makes sense if we keep it going with some more awesome characters from the genre.
Plus, starting off with Ryu just feels right.
But I might want to get some powerlifting in these character workouts next….
Are you thinking what I’m thinking?!
Weight: 187 lbs
Real Name: Ryu
Ryu is actually fairly short.
Not really short, but he’s also not tall…
And, of course, Hulk is up there with Thor, Kratos, Thanos and Cyborg, and sometimes even portrayed much taller.
Yeah, that means All Might is the tallest at 7’2, only sometimes surpassed by The Hulk!
But, don’t worry if you’re not the same height or weight range.
We write these routines to be utilized by anyone and everyone.

Ryu Diet and Nutrition
**Keep in mind: this section will be nearly identical for each hero, unless I mentioned differently (for example someone like The Hulk may get something specifically different**
Every hero needs to still have a good diet.
Unfortunately we can train like them, but I don’t think any of us are suddenly getting their powers, or the ability to magically stop caring about nutrition.
You can’t out train your diet, so I want to still give some pillars for nutrition.
You can start by checking out The Nutrition Pillars on the site, but I’ll break down some more information for you guys as well.
That being said, I also recommend tracking and paying attention to protein intake.
BUT, there are a thousand different ways to reach your goals, so finding the most sustainable way is what’s important.
Which is why our Academy utilizes multiple different Nutrition Classes (Greek Gods, Vikings, Spartans, Hunter Gatherers, Monks, Samurais, Minimalists, Superhumans) to allow people to choose what is right for YOU!
And then we built The SHJ Legacy Program to help you achieve it!

Ryu Workout Routine Research
I’m actually pretty excited for this part.
I say that because I MAY have already started reading about what I’m going to use for this section!
But, before I forget, I have to tell you what I tell you each and every time we get to this part of the character routines.
This is “the fun part” of the article. This is where I get to tell you the “how” and “why” of what is going to be in the actual workout routine.
Basically I get to tell you all about the specific character’s abilities and powers…in this case Ryu!
While I was looking up Ryu’s stats I actually found this fun list of what he “likes” on his Wiki:
General martial arts, Grapes, mizuyokan, pushups, helping people with problems, mizuyokan (Japanese sweet bean jelly), Ken (his best friend), Chun-Li, Sakura and Gouken (his master and foster father), training, fighting Sagat, eating
There’s some stuff we can use there, but a lot of it is also just for fun.
I enjoyed it…
Okay, okay, moving on.
On another Street Fighter Wiki we know his skills are listed as:
Can sleep anywhere, hitchhiking
Completely random, but again, fun.
Plus, who doesn’t want the skill to be able to sleep anywhere?
Ryu is definitely getting his recovery in!
It looks like we might be on our own on this one. I think we can do it….

The Ryu Street Fighter Workout Routine
3-6 days per week
I’m going to program you calisthenics and martial arts training. You can do these on the same day (as Ryu would), OR split them up. The volume is high because we’re talking about Ryu, not a mere human! Utilize the two days back to back or sleep anywhere and take breaks. If you didn’t understand that reference you clearly didn’t read the article…
10 min jog
**Break these down into smaller sets as needed**
250 Push Ups
250 Air Squats
100 Pull Ups
100 Sit Ups
Martial Arts Day
You can implement a day of training at a local gym.
That works, obviously.
OR, you can take some training methods we’ve seen from Coach Derek.
